The First Gold
Tunisia's Oussama Mellouli won gold in the men's 1500-meter freestyle, defeating world record holder Grant Hackett of Australia, who won the silver.
Batir it probably is, although I remember once reading about a Lebanese swimmer by the last name of "Samakeh" -that's how I remembered his name who won a gold in either swimming or diving back in the 1920s, i'll check it out
Batir it was a silver in diving, 1928, Egyptian Farid Samakah!
Anonymous... 1500 m is waaaay too long and maybe Phelps didn't think he could do well in it. You really neede to change your whole mentality and practice differently if you want to race in thos long races instead of the 50-200 meter ones
and i think he also got a new world record out of it ... congrats Mellouli and congrats Tunis

ReplyDeleteGood that he was not competing with Phelps. I think this is the first Arab Gold in Swimming in the history of the Olympics.
