Hareega... (a.k.a Reega Reega Hareega) Not my real name, just the temperature here. Don't listen to the people who say that I have a sense of humor that can freeze the mercury inside a thermometer. For questions, complaints or insults email me at faristuta@hotmail.com

One thing I have noticed is that when it comes to donations, they have more nakhweh than all the famous Arab generous men in history. Forget whether they donate to build a temple in Jerusalem or to ban abortion or or...the idea of "giving" is much more prevalent in the US than in Jordan. That may be attributed to the difference in standard of living. I am sure more Jordanians will be give to charities apart from Zakat) if they had the leasure of providing for their families and their enjoyment then think of others.
what is nakweh?
Linda..... nakhweh means means unconditionally helping someone else usually belonging to the same country, and usually it's someone / people you've never met or known before.
Jameeed and Natasha, i second that, i don't blame the majority of Jordanians because they are the one who need financial help, but it's those who keep millions building up and are so selfish when it comes to helping others, and we don't have a good advertisment for helping the poor, and many of those who want to help do hesitate because they don't trust that their money will reach the poor...etc
The SOS offers supporting a child for 60 Jds annually, 60 nera only.... i bet that at least half a million jordainas can afford that but they did not! (me included)
(I'm kinzi, not anonymous, just am not a blogger)
There is a biblical truth in giving that is still active even in secular America...give to the need in front of you and God will take care of your needs. Our 'Zakat' is 10%, but the whole idea is see how little you need to live on (including saving for retirement and kid's college)then give away as much as possible. So maybe 30%.
I am concerned with how visible wealth is in Abduun and how visible poverty is Mahatta. I see a lot of debate about Gaza and Palestine, but not too many people sacrificially investing. Why? NOW (yesterday, really)is the time Gaza and Palestine need massive input, not just financially but intellectually, from better off Palestinian cousins in Amman.
sorry i meant madas above not natasha
Kinzi.. Arabs in the bottom when it comes to donations, and the palestenians who need the money have been robbed by those who do not need it, o balash nballesh bel politics, bottom line is that we are careless when we it comes to helping each other.
kinzi again...
Hareega, I wanted to ask that question...neat and generous that Kuwait has offered the US such financial help, but the long term need of Palestine is so much greater than New Orleans!
So, could we begin by changing that now among your generation? Do a Jordanplanet challenge that every blogger sponser a child at SOS? (Maybe even VISIT the orhphanage run by the nuns of Mother Therese and give an hour of affection to parentless kids?)It's a start...and giving is kind of addictive.
Just to be clear, I am from the US but have lived in Jordan 12 years.
kinzi
Well kinzi that's a great thought, i thought about it once in one of my posts about the cancer center, but taking such initiative is awesome and i guess most bloggers here can afford 60 jds
