Should someone have the right to kill himself?

I can't forget the scene of that middle-age lady who ingested more than a 100 pills to kill herself and was rushed to the ER, and when we were about to out her on a ventilator because she couldn't breathe well, she grabbed our hands and was yelling, "Please let me die, I don't want any treatment". We didn't listen because she "suicidal" and if someone is suicidal we cannot help him kill her/himself.

We see in movies and we saw recently in Jordan a guy standing on the top of a building and threatening to throw himself to kill himself, and a 100 firefighters standing at the bottom and some policemen and religious men go up and try to convince him not to drop himself.

prisoners sentenced to death are made sure no sharp objects are left in their rooms so they won't kill themselves, although some of these prisoners might prefer to end their lives that way than to go through the whole horrible process of execution.

I understand that if someone is under the effect of drugs or alcohol they might take the wrong decision to kill themselves, but what if someone is fully conscious and alert and really wants to kill him/herself, why do we prevent them from doing so?

We allow ourselves to end the lives of criminals and we allow women to end the lives of their innocent unborn children because of a physical handicap they're not even guilty of, but we don't allow someone with reason to end his life. Does that make any sense?

this is really a complicated issue i guess. well i dont think we should go on promoting suicide, but maybe some people really do have good reasons to end their lives. i think it takes alot of thinking and courage to actually take a decision to end your own life.

Feras, this type of questioning, suprises me coming from you... because in a previous blog, you told us how you feel about abortion. Actually there is a big difference between the two, but i guess I imagined that a person who does not believe in abortion would NEVER accept a person's right to kill themselves... forgive me if I sound rude, but I am very fascinated but these issues... What fascinates me more is euthenesia! anyway... I hope no one we know would gat to nayone of these three cases.

basboos... it's complicated but unfortuantely it's very common and it happens everyday with the sick, the old, the depressed and the list goes on....

Jad... was this a suicidal note? :D
don't kill yourself badri !!

Mariam, no that's not rude at all, although the only thing i hate about you is that you still call me Feras when my name is Fares, F-A-R-E-S. I'm still against abortion but those who are pro-abortion always claim "we don't want the child to suffer, death is worse than the crappy ife he'd have", and my answer would be "if the child-to-be-born thinks so he can end his life when grows up" and as we see the majority prefer life. I see that all over the world many people are allowed to die passively, where life-saving options sometimes simple ones like blood transfusions are not given based upon the patient's request. Isn't that similar o suicide? Why is passive killing allowed by active killing not given i's the person's choice?

Lol... Sorry! I nbever realized it is FARES till today... Actually my beliefs are very loose when it comes to things like this... I am not against abortion, I am not against Euthenesia, and sometimes... maybe if the person knows what they are doing... also this... but i am very opposed to killing other people while someone is killing themselves!

First of all, I would like to say that I really enjoy reading the posts sent by the so-called Hareega. Your posts are not only informative and scientific, but also hilarious and funny in some parts. I would be like to participate in your site. Hoping that you would accept my words! :)

Concerning his post. In my opinion, as I was taught back in my dear school. You can't take away something that doesn't belong to you. God created you for a purpose, and he is the only one who can take back what he had made. Don't you guys think so?!
