Cheap, Very Cheap, EasyJet Cheap, from Amman

In the last decade, there has been a very rapid emergence of low-cost airlines in Europe. These airlines offer much better prices but the service provided on the plane is suboptimal. No meals, no allocated seating (you'll still sit, but on first-come first-serve basis) and they charge for services such as checking in luggage. It was even rumored that one airline , Ryanair, was going to charge passengers for using restrooms. It turned out that the CEO of Ryanair made that claim to bring more publicity to his airline. At any rate, the price for tickets on these airlines is dirty cheap, therefore they have been growing very rapidly , causing nightmares to more well-established airlines such as British Airways.

One of these airlines, EasyJet, is coming to Amman. They are going to start an Amman-London route three times weekly starting the end of March.

I went to their website to get an idea on their ticket prices, and it's all good news. The price for a round-trip on economy would be 164 Euros , excluding luggage. If you want to include one piece of luggage, you add 22 Euros (total 186 Euros, nearly 175 JDs) total. I searched all the other airlines serving Amman around that time, and the cheapest among them was a BMI flight for 760 dollars (nearly 540 JDs or 580 Euros). I did my search online. The EasyJet ticket was 20-50 Euros more expensive if you would travel on other dates.

The drawback is that they will fly to Gatwick airport, which is a little farther from London than Heathrow.

I encourage everyone to fly with these guys. If you are looking for a good first class treatment skip to the more expensive Royal Jordanian or British Airways. If you are like me, someone who believes that flying always sucks no matter what you're fling and you just want to get to your destination safely, then hop on to an EasyJet flight. If many people fly with them , we can get to have more flights to more destinations in Europe for much less expensive prices.

Welcome to Amman cheap airlines. No matter how bad their customer service will be, I guess Jordanians have all been accustomed to what's worse.

Wave bye bye RJ!

Not necessarily, if RJ is smart, they'll come up with their own low-cost airline, and start flying low-cost to several areas for cheap prices. Many Jordanians would rather fly to Aqaba or Damascus or Beirut if the prices were lower than what they are now.

great article..... however, sorry this might seem a bit sad, but it's a big annoyance of mine.... easyJet is small e capital J........

Mazboot, but this style of entrepreneurship is light years away, m3gool we'd "pay" to start an airline and then have people pay less?? an economic concept close to heresy to us, unless someone, somewhere is in on it, and allows it to be created.

thats cool! finally flights to Jordan at a reasonable price, easyjet are quite a decent company to be honest comparing it to other budget airlines, its one of the top in it rank.
As for Gatwick, thats only a few miles more than Heathrow, so its not bad as Luton or Stanstead, not to mention the direct train from Gatwick to Waterloo! so thats as central as it gets! who needs Heathrow, its terminals get so busy, i personally prefer Gatwick, less busy all the times....

Ammar... I don't know much about economy to be honest, but it's a shame that travel between relatively close cities such as Amman and Damasuc and Beirut can be such a hassle and expensive, and with that bad roads we have and the absence of a train system, flying must be a very good alternative to driving. I'd rather see a Jordanian or Arab company travel to London for a cheap price

Revelation, I never flew to England, but I heard a lot of bad stories about Heathrow even from a couple of people who work there, especially with their most recent international terminal. But being used to Queen Alia airport we're kind of used to everything bad going on

Yeah, flydubai and aljazeera airlines are working quite well here. Of course there's no Jordanian LCC because they don't want to screw things up for RJ but I think and hope it's a a matter of time

Finally.. I made the mistake of already having a return flight booked from london (a year ticket :S)...but with all our natural arab looking luggage and no 'wasta' for easyJet, which will really be cheaper for most jordanians, RJ or easyJet?

Ola... why doesn't RJ start a low-cost airline itself? They made some profit in recent years by focusing on more local flights to the Middle East, they can focus there and get some passengers.
RJ has the advantage of being Jordanian ( a plus believe it or not) and the ability to connect to link its passengers to more distant destinations than flydubai or Aljazeerra

Hafez,
RJ is facing more competition for sure, they need to play the game right
